Here’s my Story

I’m pretty sure that the foundation of a peaceful life is knowing you’ve got enough money coming in and enough time to enjoy it. From there, the possibilities for a life well-lived are unlimited.

Maybe one day this won’t be true, and we’ll have either transcended money with universal basic income (or other economic systems that seem to be on their way) or by a full system reset of consciousness, but for now, this is what we’ve got.

These are transition times we are in, and until our culture has transcended money, we’d better learn how to come into right relationship with it.

I wish I had understood right relationship between time and money when I was first starting out.

Instead, I spent the first fifteen years of my adult life (and the most precious years of my kids’ lives) pursuing a fortune and sacrificing my time energy, and attention — all of which are non-renewable resources.

And, for what? In service to the pursuit of a resource that’s easy to get and infinitely available when you know how to access it, money.

You’re probably here because you’ve already started to get the sneaking suspicion that there is more to life than earning enough money to secure your future. Or, maybe you don’t yet have enough, and you want to find out how to live into the abundance and prosperity you sense is here for you.

Either way, I’m glad you are here because sharing my story and learnings with you makes the years of striving and trying and confusion and conflict all worth it.

There were many times over the years I wondered. I wasn’t sure. I wanted to die. I couldn’t imagine that the life I was creating was a life worth living.

But, a greater part of me knew I couldn’t be seeing the whole picture. I must have been blind about something, and if I kept looking and remained willing to face my fear and ask what was true and open my eyes (and my heart), I’d find something meaningful.

It worked. I rooted out the conditioning that has been passed on through my ancestry, inherited unconsciously, and identified the false beliefs that were keeping me trapped behind a wall of protection, in a reality of not enough, constantly sacrificing my heart in service to a mind that never shut up.

Before I say more about that I think it’s important to acknowledge that this conditioning and these false beliefs were, up until now, necessary for us to carry through and make it here.

We are the descendants of the survivors of a win/lose paradigm.

If our ancestors had not won, we would not be here. So, we must appreciate them. It was because they knew how to win that we were able to make it, AND it’s also time for us to recognize that the ways of “winning” in the past paradigm manner of competition, scarcity, power over, striving, taking, and hoarding cannot continue if we want to thrive into the future.

To put our minds to work in service to our hearts is a radical act of r(E)volution.

And, we are the first people living at a time who have the luxury of choosing to create this r(E)volution, and by extension a world that works for all.

We are the evolved future of our ancestors and we are standing at the precipice of a new age, in which there is no longer a need for win/lose dynamics. In fact, the win/lose dynamics that got us here will cause us to create our own extinction if we do not use our open hearts and conscious minds to turn the tides, now.

We are the first people who have the resources to heal the wounds of the past, though in many cases we cannot see these resources properly, or the wounds that need to heal. It’s our job to surface these wounds, heal them, and come into a new relationship with our resources, and how we use and share and be with them together, as a result.

This is why I am here.

And I believe this is why you are here too.

And this is why the Eyes Wide Open Collective exists.

The work of the Money Map and LIFT are in service to the rebirth of our collective selves into a protopian reality that, in truth, already exists. We just have to shed that which is not to remember it.

So that is what I have been doing. Since 2003 or so when I first caught an inkling that maybe I wasn’t just a lawyer, but instead a lightworker here in service to a greater possibility (and believe me, when I first found that out, I was resistant, shocked, terrified and very, very confused), I have been remembering who I am, why I am here, and what is mine to do.

What I’ve discovered is that I am the past life incarnation of a future being who is already living into the future we are creating together.

I am here to live into that future, which already exists now, and to be and become that which we already are — a being who lives in full harmony with myself, with you, and with the planet.

What is mine to do is to heal the wounds that have been passed on for centuries by expanding my capacity to feel, learning to have compassion for myself (and for all of us), screw a lot of things up, find ways to repair, and teach from my learnings.

What is mine to do is to show the way down the road less traveled, and hold the hands of the people who, like me, feel lost and confused in a world that seems to value that which is not of real value and doesn’t seem to value that which is.

What is mine to do is to bring the massive intelligence of my mind to the work of my heart. Doing that has required me to repair a broken connection between my mind and my heart. And first and foremost, I had to remember I even had a heart.

What is mine to do is to feel the pain of my suffering and love the inner child who did not (and never has) gotten what she needed.

What is mine to do is to bring the practical tools of awakening and growing up to what seems to be a collective spiritual quest for enlightenment.

I am a householder. I have learned how to household and awaken and it’s part of my work to model that for you now so that you can live fully in this world, but not of it.

What is mine to do is to help you to break free of the lies that are keeping you trapped in a reality that is limited, while also helping you (and myself) come to terms with the aspects of our humanity that are actually limited.

For example, this body will die if it’s not properly cared for (a real limitation), and learning to care for my body brings me into deeper awareness of what’s true and never requires compromise.

Ultimately, and for the purposes of the Eyes Wide Open Collective, the continued refinement of the work of the Money Map and LIFT are the fruits of the labor of my personal work.

Money Map and LIFT have been coming through me since 2009. They have each been upgraded many times since then, as I have learned more, healed more and personally evolved.

Here’s where it all began:

After spending years pursuing “success” in the form of fame and fortune, and finding plenty of it, but very little peace, I finally realized that everything our current societal norms trajectories us towards has turned us into slaves to a system that doesn’t truly serve the world we really want to live into and create together.

If you are finally realizing the same, and desire to create a world that works for everyone (beginning with yourself) in which you are fully sovereign and know you’ve got enough and everyone else does to, well you’re in the right place.

I didn’t always have this perspective.

I was trained as a lawyer by one of the most prestigious institutions on the planet, Georgetown University. And I fought to come out on top like the best of them, graduating first in my law school class, probably because they didn’t count number two. And I had something to prove.

In my third year of law school, I got married in February, pregnant in March, graduated in May, moved to Florida to begin my clerkship on the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, just below the Supreme Court, and then gave birth to my daughter in August.

I was on point! 27, a mom, the breadwinner in my family, and I thought I was set for life.

By the time I began my career as a law firm associate (at the hardest law firm to get a job at because I loved to compete), Munger, Tolles and Olson (the firm started by Charlie Munger, Warren Buffett’s personal lawyer), I was beginning to sense that maybe something wasn’t all quite right.

Fairly quickly, I began to feel confused and lost because when I looked down the road 10, 20, or 40 years into the future, I wanted to die imagining that this was my life, forever.

I had thought for sure I would be so happy. But, you know how the story goes. It’s almost trite by now — pursue money, get money, discover the trap of money and the pursuit of success.

Bottom line, really, was that I was lonely. And beginning to feel sort of hopeless.

Until ultimately I spiraled down and down and down until my breakdown led to a breakthrough, a new possibility, a new way of being, hope, lots of action, discovery of something I could not have seen before and a new level of success that I thought for sure would be the final level, but now I realize that maybe I still haven’t even made it to yet. And maybe I never will.

But what’s different now is that I love the journey. For most of those 14 years, I was just pretty terrified.

This breakdown/breakthrough cycle happened several times between 2001 and 2015, a fourteen year period that I’m sure would qualify as multiple lifetimes worth of growth and awareness. I write about all of it in my forthcoming book: Eyes Wide Open: Discovering Your Truth in a World Full of Lies. If you are on my email list, I’ll let you know when you can pre-order it.

The big cycle that’s probably important for you to know about for the purposes of understanding the Eyes Wide Open Collective and how this work can support you is that once upon a time I was a very traditional, very prestigious lawyer who built a million dollar law practice and appeared on TV and wrote the best-selling book on legal planning for families. And, I let that all go during one particular big breakdown so I could discover my internal artist, who I know as Ali Shanti.

Today, I live fully out loud as all of myself, both Alexis Neely and Ali Shanti, despite some very powerful players telling me I shouldn’t and couldn’t.

But, I had to because to hide or cut off one would be like cutting off a body part that is very necessary to the whole. Instead, I would have to discover how to integrate these two very distinct parts and live fully without compromise.

Now, it’s my work to support that for each of us because bringing out our whole selves and resolving inner conflicts is a huge part of what’s necessary for us to collaborate and work together into the creation of a new humanity.

Here’s one thing I can say for sure: you do not have to compromise your truth (or your time, energy and attention) in service to money. By coming into more alignment with who you are, why you are here, and what’s yours to do, you can and will have enough.

The Eyes Wide Open Collective is designed to be a living model of a new paradigm eco-system and economic engine to support your personal r(E)volution.
On another note: I built a company that trains lawyers on a New Law Business Model I created when I was in private practice and gives the lawyers we work with a business model to support them in living into their own full humanity, using their law degrees to bring families together and keep them out court and out of conflict.

If you’ve read this far, welcome. I’m so glad you are here and I look forward to supporting you to see how you can come into right relationship with your resources of time, energy, attention and money so you can fund your own personal r(E)volution.

With so much eyes (and heart) wide open love,

About Eyes Wide Open

Eyes Wide Open Collective is a living model and template for the new economy eco-system that is here to support you to live into your own personal r(E)volution, so you can remember who you are, why you are here, and what’s yours to do.

Here's Our Ultimate Vision For Eyes Wide Open

Our mission at the Eyes Wide Open Collective is to give every person on this planet the practical tools for their own personal r(E)volution in support of a world that works for everyone. We believe that when everyone knows what they need, what they have to give, and how to ask for what they need in exchange for what they have to give, with absolute clarity, we can collaborate beyond compromise and come into coherent resonance with ourselves, each other and the planet, beyond the scarcity and fear that perpetuate separation. We believe this is the Equation for Enough and the foundational necessary ingredients for a win/win economy and a thriving planet for all.
